Department: Core Laboratory (Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine)

POSITION:
Full-Time Medical Laboratory Technologist (OPSEU)

WORKING HOURS:
Rotation in a 24/7 laboratory with cross-training opportunities in other core lab areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct analytical testing of patient samples with minimal supervision, utilizing both manual and automated methods.
2. Perform routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as per established protocols, ensuring documentation of results.
3. Interpret and adhere to relevant procedure and policy manuals.
4. Execute quality control measures and troubleshoot any discrepancies in results, reporting equipment malfunctions to designated technical staff.
5. Prepare necessary reagents for testing.
6. Prioritize tasks effectively, responding to urgent requests for STAT testing and consulting with peers or supervisors regarding abnormal results.
7. Communicate clearly with healthcare professionals, providing basic interpretations of laboratory results and clarifying test limitations.
8. Utilize the Laboratory Information System proficiently.
9. Hold a degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program (General or Specialty). Candidates awaiting exam results may be considered under non-registered MLT status, transitioning to registered status upon successful CMLTO registration.
10. Recent experience in Blood Bank or Core Laboratory settings is preferred.
11. Demonstrate satisfactory performance in all work duties.
12. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) is advantageous.
