HOURS OF WORK: ROTATION IN A 24/7 LAB AND CROSS TRAINING INTO ANOTHER CORE LAB/TM AREA
Job OverviewThe role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Conducting analytical testing of patient specimens with minimal supervision, utilizing both manual and automated methods.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the work area, performing routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as per established protocols, and documenting maintenance activities.
- Reviewing and comprehending relevant procedure and policy documentation.
- Executing quality control measures and addressing basic troubleshooting when results deviate from acceptable limits, while escalating unresolved issues to the supervising technologist.
- Identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions to designated technical personnel.
- Accurately documenting and communicating completed results in accordance with established protocols, while maintaining comprehensive records.
- Preparing necessary reagents for testing procedures.
- Adhering to safety protocols and ensuring compliance with safe laboratory practices at all times.
- Demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively to urgent requests for STAT testing, consulting with colleagues, supervisors, or pathologists as necessary regarding abnormal or critical results.
- Effectively communicating with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals, including providing basic interpretations of laboratory test outcomes and discussing limitations of testing procedures.
- Utilizing the Laboratory Information System proficiently.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
- Contributing to the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program (General or subject Specialty).
- Current registration with CMLTO. Candidates who have completed their Medical Laboratory Program and are awaiting exam results may be employed in a non-registered MLT capacity, transitioning to registered status upon successful CMLTO registration.
- Preferred recent experience in Blood Bank/Core laboratory settings.
- Demonstrated satisfactory performance in previous roles.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred.
