We currently have two part-time positions available for a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in the Microbiology department.
Role of the Clinical Laboratory Specialist at Grand River Hospital:
Shifts will vary and will be scheduled to cover all days of the week. Responsibilities include performing microbiological testing procedures on patient samples with limited supervision. Testing may be conducted manually or utilizing automated systems (BD FX, Phoenix/EpiCentre/ BD Max/ Maldi-TOF, BD InoqulA, Seegene Starplex).
Key responsibilities include:
- Executing all quality control protocols and basic troubleshooting as necessary, adhering to established guidelines.
- Demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks and respond to urgent, unpredictable demands for STAT testing.
- Consulting with colleagues, supervisors, or Medical Microbiologists regarding abnormal results or other concerns when appropriate.
Effective communication with physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff is essential, including providing basic interpretations of laboratory test results and clarifying the limitations of testing procedures.
Participation in the department's Quality Assurance Program and compliance with accreditation standards is expected.
Qualifications for the Clinical Laboratory Specialist:
- CMLTO / CSMLS certified or actively pursuing certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, with recent experience in Microbiology preferred.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems, particularly the Cerner Millennium Microbiology module, is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred.
- A solid performance history is essential.
