Job Overview

The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  1. Conducting analytical testing procedures on patient samples with minimal supervision, utilizing both manual methods and automated systems.
  2. Maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the work area, performing necessary routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, and documenting all maintenance activities.
  3. Reviewing and comprehending relevant procedure and policy documentation.
  4. Executing quality control measures and troubleshooting any discrepancies in results, reporting unresolved issues to the supervising technologist.
  5. Addressing basic troubleshooting for tests and instruments, while promptly reporting any equipment malfunctions to the designated technical personnel.
  6. Documenting and communicating completed results in accordance with established protocols and maintaining accurate records.
  7. Preparing necessary reagents for testing as required.
  8. Adhering to safety protocols and consistently following safe operational procedures.
  9. Demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks and respond to urgent requests for STAT testing, consulting with peers, supervisors, or pathologists as needed regarding abnormal or critical results.
  10. Effectively communicating with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel, including providing basic interpretations of laboratory test results and clarifying the limitations of testing procedures.
  11. Utilizing the Laboratory Information System proficiently.
  12. Performing additional duties as assigned.
  13. Contributing to the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
  1. Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program (General or subject Specialty).
  2. Current registration with CMLTO. Candidates who have completed their Medical Laboratory Program and are awaiting exam results may be employed in an MLT capacity under non-registered status, transitioning to registered status upon obtaining CMLTO registration.
  3. Preferred recent experience in Blood Bank/Core laboratory settings.
  4. Demonstrated satisfactory work performance.
  5. Preferred proficiency in the Laboratory Information System.
  6. Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
