Company Overview:

With a growing portfolio of income-generating properties, we are seeking a skilled Property Accountant to bolster our finance department.

Position Overview:

The Property Accountant will be an integral part of our finance team located in downtown Ottawa. This role involves overseeing the complete accounting cycle for multiple properties, alongside preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and analyses. The successful candidate will ensure that all tasks are executed with a commitment to quality and compliance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full-cycle accounting for various properties.
  • Collaborate with the accounts receivable team to ensure timely billing and collection processes.
  • Work with the accounts payable team to handle cheque processing, invoices, and requisitions efficiently.
  • Maintain and reconcile supplier accounts payable files.
  • Prepare monthly accounting tasks, including bank reconciliations and management fee calculations.
  • Set up new contractors, suppliers, and tenants in the accounting system for accurate tracking.
  • Ensure timely month-end closing and adherence to reporting deadlines.
  • Generate and distribute monthly financial statements to stakeholders.
  • Compile financial data to prepare comprehensive financial statements.
  • Conduct variance analyses for financial statements to assist management.
  • Create and maintain supporting Excel schedules for financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with accepted financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide financial information to various departments as needed.
  • Assist in the year-end process with external service providers.
  • Support the preparation of CAM reconciliations, ensuring accurate expense allocation.
  • Perform clerical duties such as maintaining filing systems and documentation.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Execute additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Experience in financial accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Yardi accounting software is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Provide service to multiple departments under tight deadlines.
  • May require extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Overtime may be necessary.
