Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced instructor to teach natural resource micro-credentials at North Island College. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in one or more of the following courses: Introduction to Forestry, Indigenous Lands and Culture, Applied Technology and Data Management, Plant Identification and Classification, Coastal Harvesting Systems, Introduction to Timber Cruising, Principles of Forest Engineering, and Principles of Ecological Monitoring.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
  • Use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs
  • Teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity in courses and course outlines
  • Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
  • Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours to discuss their progress and other issues that influence their learning
  • Clearly communicate learning outcomes for programs and courses and the way in which learners will be evaluated against those outcomes
  • Design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students and keep students informed of their progress
  • Submit grades in a timely manner and maintain records of student enrollment and achievement
Requirements
  • Forest professional or related discipline with a minimum of three years industry experience
  • Master's degree in education, forestry, environmental studies, or a related field
  • Curriculum development experience
  • One year teaching experience in a post-secondary setting
  • BC Instructors Diploma or BC Teaching Certificate is preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with all aspects of course instruction, including facilitation of theoretical and applied learning, coordination of field trips, engaging with industry, and coordination of instructional resources
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with a variety of instructional aids, computer applications, learning technologies, and digital tools
  • Demonstrated pedagogical approaches to stimulate and empower learners
  • Experience with the efficient use of advanced instructional technologies relevant to face-to-face and online instruction
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and co-operatively in campus-based and online team environments, and with students, industry, funders, employers, and staff
