Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Math Instructor to join our team at North Island College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Math and Data Analysis courses in our Coastal Forest Technology Diploma, Coastal Forest Worker Certificate, and Natural Resource Micro-credentials programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
  • Use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs
  • Teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity in courses and course outlines
  • Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
  • Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours to discuss their progress and other issues that influence their learning
Requirements
  • Forest professional or related discipline with a minimum of three years industry experience
  • Master's degree in Math, Education, Forestry, Environmental Studies, or a related field
  • Curriculum development experience
  • One year teaching experience in a post-secondary setting
  • BC Instructors Diploma or BC Teaching Certificate is preferred
  • Math and Technical writing experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with all aspects of course instruction, including facilitation of theoretical and applied learning, coordination of field trips, engaging with industry, and coordination of instructional resources
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with a variety of instructional aids, computer applications, learning technologies, and digital tools
  • Demonstrated pedagogical approaches to stimulate and empower learners
  • Experience with the efficient use of advanced instructional technologies relevant to face-to-face and online instruction
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and co-operatively in campus-based and online team environments, and with students, industry, funders, employers, and staff
