Position Overview

AECOM Buildings + Places, the architectural division of AECOM, is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to enhance our dynamic team. This role offers the flexibility of hybrid work arrangements.

The Buildings and Places Team is a thriving business unit that provides engineering, architectural, and project management services, alongside planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects. Project engagements may encompass a variety of sectors, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and transit facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as a senior technical resource and advisor for the team.
  • Providing specialized technical insights for studies and designs in your area of expertise.
  • Establishing study and design protocols to ensure high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Creating construction cost estimates and technical effort assessments for projects.
  • Utilizing expertise throughout the completion of discipline components of project packages.
  • Conducting quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
  • Drafting technical specification sections.
  • Contributing to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet project requirements.
  • Generating various reports, including schematic designs and design development documents.
  • Preparing electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Implementing design concepts through detailed drawings for lighting, power, fire alarm, and low voltage systems.
  • Providing technical and administrative support throughout all project phases.
  • Conducting necessary research to gather relevant industry and project-specific data.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards in design.
  • Collaborating with prime consultants, engineering consultants, and contractors; addressing technical inquiries.
  • Overseeing construction administration tasks, including:
    • Attending site meetings and conducting site reviews with reports.
    • Reviewing shop drawings.
    • Preparing site instructions and change notices.
    • Evaluating contractor change quotations.
    • Reviewing progress billing.
    • Verifying fire alarm reports.
  • Managing tight schedules, controlling project budgets, and motivating team members.
  • Exercising sound judgment supported by strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in the engineering consulting sector, preferably within a building engineering group.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Ontario and/or Quebec.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes such as OESC, OBC, IEEE, and NFPA.
  • Experience in leading electrical design teams.
  • Expertise in designing electrical power and lighting systems.
  • Knowledge of power analysis tools like SKM and/or ETAP.
  • Proficiency in using computers for engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support within a department.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for effective collaboration.
  • Commitment to technical excellence and quality.
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach.
  • Detail-oriented and resourceful.
  • A collaborative team player with strong decision-making skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Experience with electrical load calculations and lighting design is advantageous.
  • Additional certifications such as LEED, LC, CEM, or RCDD are beneficial.
  • Experience in communications system design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with IES energy modeling tools is desirable.
  • Some project management experience and training is preferred.
