Position OverviewAECOM Buildings + Places, the architectural division of AECOM, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to enhance our dynamic team. This role offers flexibility with potential hybrid work arrangements.
The Buildings and Places Team is a flourishing segment that provides engineering, architectural, and project management services, along with planning and economic analysis for vertical construction initiatives. Project scopes may encompass various sectors, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical, water/wastewater, and transit facilities.
Key Responsibilities:The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Acting as a senior technical resource and advisor for the team.
- Offering specialized technical insights for studies and designs within their area of expertise.
- Establishing study and design protocols to ensure high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
- Creating construction cost estimates and evaluating technical efforts for projects.
- Utilizing expertise throughout the completion of discipline components of project packages.
- Conducting quality control assessments of design calculations and drawings.
- Drafting technical specification sections.
- Contributing to the development of engineering budgets and schedules.
- Generating various reports, including schematic designs and building assessments.
- Preparing electrical drawings and specifications.
- Implementing design concepts through detailed drawings for lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems.
- Providing technical and administrative support throughout all project phases.
- Conducting necessary research to gather relevant industry and project-specific data.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Collaborating with consultants and contractors, addressing technical inquiries.
- Overseeing construction administration tasks, including site meetings, shop drawing reviews, and contractor change quotations.
- Managing project schedules and budgets while motivating team members.
- Exercising sound judgment supported by strong technical and analytical skills.
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in the engineering consulting sector, ideally within a building engineering context.
- Professional Engineer registration in Ontario and/or Quebec.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as OESC, OBC, IEEE, and NFPA.
- Experience in leading electrical design teams.
- Proficiency in designing electrical power and lighting systems.
- Knowledge of power analysis tools like SKM and/or ETAP.
- Competence in using software for engineering calculations and report generation.
- Ability to mentor and support colleagues within the department.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Commitment to technical excellence and quality.
- Self-motivated and proactive approach.
- Detail-oriented and resourceful.
- A collaborative team player with decision-making abilities.
- A valid driver's license.
- Experience with electrical load calculations and lighting design is advantageous.
- Additional certifications such as LEED, LC, CEM, or RCDD are beneficial.
- Experience in communications system design is a plus.
- Familiarity with IES energy modeling tools is desirable.
- Some project management experience and training are preferred.
