Position Title: FNHL Community Programs Assistant

Department: Student Engagement and Community Programs | First Nations House Learning

Overview:

The FNHL Community Programs Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing student engagement through the coordination of events and support for community initiatives. This position is essential for fostering a welcoming environment for Indigenous students and promoting cultural awareness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the organization of events and provides programming assistance for FNHL's Student Engagement and Community Programs.
  • Assists with the Indigenous Student Lunch program held weekly.
  • Develops event timelines, creates promotional materials, and manages social media outreach.
  • Offers administrative and programming support to the Musqueam and UBC Bridge Through Sport Program teams.

Reporting Structure:

This role reports directly to the Manager of Student Engagement and Community Programs and collaborates closely with senior FNHL staff to meet their programming and administrative requirements.

Work Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and supports various events and programs within FNHL's Student Engagement portfolio.
  • Provides assistance for the weekly Indigenous Student Lunch gatherings.
  • Creates and manages timelines for events, signage, and social media promotions.
  • Delivers administrative and programming support to the Musqueam and UBC Bridge Through Sport Program staff.

Supervision:

The FNHL Community Programs Assistant will receive guidance from the Manager of Student Engagement and Community Programs and will work alongside other senior FNHL members.

Leadership Responsibilities:

This position may involve overseeing the activities of Work Learn students, UBC Recreation volunteers, and other temporary staff within FNHL.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school and a two-year post-secondary diploma; a Bachelor's degree is an asset. A minimum of four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience with Indigenous issues or working with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with programs designed to reduce barriers in postsecondary education.

Additional Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy.
  • Able to thrive under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities.
