About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team at Sprott Shaw College. As a Community Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing harm reduction services, overdose prevention, and support to individuals in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for program participants.
  • Offer a variety of physical, emotional, social, and life skills supports to program participants.
  • Maintain confidentiality about the personal information of program participants.
  • Perform overdose prevention and interventions within established guidelines.
  • Alert other staff of any program participant requiring acute medical care/intervention.
  • Work collaboratively and problem-solve with team members.
  • Actively listen and de-escalate confrontational situations.
  • Perform basic indoor and outdoor cleaning duties at work sites.
  • Replenish and restock harm reduction supplies, office supplies, and other site-specific supplies.
  • Communicate questions and concerns from program participants to management.
  • Comply with all OH&S and employee policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Lived experience of the challenges faced by program participants.
  • Grade 12 education or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain regular hours of work.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and duties.
  • Overdose prevention and intervention training.
  • CPR/AED certification.
