About the Role

The Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transformational Change Leader to join our team as the Head of Delivery Excellence. This is a unique opportunity to lead and manage transformational change initiatives within our Capital Markets Operations division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiative Management:
    • Oversee and guide business transformation projects by providing subject matter expertise and ensuring successful project execution.
    • Escalate roadblocks to senior management as required.
    • Participate in business unit-sponsored projects that impact Capital Markets Operations.
    • Coordinate, facilitate, or participate in the development of operational procedures for new businesses and products.
    • Identify process improvement and reengineering opportunities through streamlining, simplification, elimination of redundancies/overlaps, improved capacity utilization, automation, outsourcing, standardization, etc.
    • Lead or conduct functional reviews primarily focused on productivity improvements as required by individual projects or as requested by senior management.
    • Ensure effective execution of analysis and requirements gathering by team members.
    • Assist with planning and budgeting for Change Delivery group involvement in initiatives.
    • Provide input to Business Architecture decisions and process.
  • Management of Project Resources:
    • Develop and mentor a high-performing team capable of driving change initiatives and delivering tangible results.
    • Manage a global Change Delivery team aligned with the various Capital Markets Operations functional units.
    • Add talented project managers and business analysts with relevant subject matter expertise to the team as project demand dictates, maintaining an appropriate mix of full-time employees and contractors.
    • Manage capacity of critical skill sets in order to meet departmental objectives.
    • Develop skills and competencies of staff by utilizing training programs pertaining to requirements gathering, use case preparation, UAT activities, and the RBC Project Management Framework.
    • Assign staff to initiatives.
    • Provide direction to staff.
    • Represent Change Delivery in joint Capital Markets Operations/WM/QTS committees.
    • Ensure monthly recovery of staff time via MIS or similar tools.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Partner with Heads of all Capital Markets Operations functional units and leadership team to ensure successful execution of portfolio.
    • In conjunction with senior management, liaise with businesses on Capital Markets Operations initiatives and business unit initiatives that impact Capital Markets Operations.
  • Portfolio & Change Delivery:
    • Develop and articulate a comprehensive strategy for change delivery in alignment with the overall business objectives and market trends.
    • Evolve and facilitate Capital Markets Operations' work intake, demand management, and work prioritization process.
    • Collaborate closely with senior management, technology teams, operations staff, and external partners to gain buy-in and support for change initiatives that will enable Capital Markets Operations' strategic goals and transformation objectives.
    • Evolve and facilitate Capital Markets Operations' strategic initiative status reporting.
    • Create and maintain portfolio metrics supported by dashboard reporting.
    • Establish, implement, and maintain enterprise project management methodologies.
    • Provide portfolio management guidance and support to Capital Markets Operations sponsors, leaders, people managers, and other team members.
    • Coach and prepare individual sponsors/leaders to lead change, and facilitate alignment of transformational/program objectives among the leaders.
    • Lead the creation of change plans and guide resources in work activities to achieve required results.

Requirements

  • Proven people leadership and development skills; ability to work effectively in a project team environment, demonstrated facilitation and leadership skills, strong listening and interview skills.
  • Ability to work in a federated type of environment.
  • Strong innovative, problem-solving, and analytical skills; a self-starter capable of functioning in an autonomous manner.
  • Good organizational awareness of various Capital Markets Operations functional units.
  • Knowledge of process and continuous improvement concepts and techniques.
  • Capacity and desire to learn and absorb new methodologies and techniques.
  • Previous experience in management positions desirable.
  • Corporate Governance, Operations, and Technology background.
