Position Overview

The individual in this role will report directly to the Director of Experiential Learning and Career Development, providing strategic leadership to the broader Mount Allison community. The primary focus will be on the design and implementation of co-curricular elements within experiential learning initiatives, as well as supporting the growth and refinement of the experiential education framework.

This position entails spearheading innovative projects aimed at enhancing student experiential learning opportunities and expanding key programs within the department. Responsibilities will encompass a variety of areas, including internships, competency-based education, entrepreneurial skill development, career advancement, and the introduction of new initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, update, and oversee the execution of learning programs for the Internship Program.
    • For interns: facilitate the Internship Orientation, assist with individual goal-setting, conduct summer/employment reflections, and guide end-of-internship evaluations, linking experiences to academic learning.
    • For employers: create and implement a support program for successful internships, including mid-process evaluations and debriefing sessions.
  • Develop, update, and deliver competency-based training and educational programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and external partners to cultivate entrepreneurial thinking and innovation resources.
  • Manage community service learning projects that arise from Experiential Learning and Career Development initiatives.
  • Engage in the exploration and development of new and innovative certificates or courses that promote experiential education; act as a liaison to faculty to support experiential education within the curriculum.
  • Stay informed on current literature related to experiential learning to integrate new and creative strategies into the Mount Allison program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred (e.g., MBA or Master's in disciplines such as social psychology, psychology, sociology, education, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of the theoretical principles underpinning experiential learning and education.
  • Prior experience in a university setting is advantageous.
  • Strong research and writing capabilities, including experience in crafting project proposals and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills: oral, written, listening, and reading; familiarity with social media and video production is a plus; adept at facilitating meetings and group discussions.
  • Demonstrated project management expertise.
  • A collaborative team player who can identify shared objectives and work effectively with diverse groups to achieve those goals.
  • A positive role model capable of mentoring students and fostering a constructive work environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
