Position: Marketing Director

Location: Northwest Territories

NWT Tourism, the primary organization for promoting the Northwest Territories, is on the lookout for a Marketing Director who will play a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility and attractiveness of the region to both domestic and international travelers.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the selected candidate will be a key member of the management team, leading a dedicated group in Yellowknife. This role involves collaboration with General Sales Agents across various countries including Germany, Japan, China, and Australia, as well as other international partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to research, plan, and coordinate the creation and execution of the NWT Tourism Marketing Plan and budget alongside the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Oversee the implementation of ongoing marketing initiatives as outlined in the Marketing Plan.
  • Manage the Agency of Record (AOR) contract, ensuring alignment of priorities and expenses with the established budget, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with General Sales Agents effectively.
  • Establish partnership agreements with Destination Canada and other contractors for collaborative marketing efforts or international initiatives.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and guide daily operations to maximize return on investment.
  • Prepare funding applications for additional marketing resources and manage the execution of supplementary marketing programs to fulfill contribution agreement requirements.
  • Ensure timely preparation of quarterly and annual reports for funding partners, adhering to the specifications outlined in partnership agreements.
  • Supervise research projects related to marketing initiatives as needed.

Required Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the tourism industry at territorial, national, and international levels, along with current marketing trends and techniques.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing intricate marketing plans and budgets.
  • Strong analytical skills related to marketing performance metrics and industry trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven public speaking and presentation capabilities.
  • Ability to negotiate partnership agreements and manage relationships to ensure fulfillment of commitments by partners and contractors.
  • Experience in leading teams to achieve high performance, with a focus on coaching and developing staff.
  • Capability to work effectively in diverse cultural settings.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:

The qualifications necessary for this role typically include a diploma or undergraduate degree in marketing or business administration, complemented by a minimum of five years of experience in a marketing role within a Destination Marketing Organization, government tourism office, or relevant private sector business. Equivalent experience will be considered. Supervisory experience is essential, and familiarity with the NWT's tourism offerings and marketing strategies is advantageous.

Additional Information:

The ideal candidate will be motivated, adaptable, willing to travel, and capable of managing multiple deadlines with a positive outlook. A valid passport is required.
