Job Title: Research Assistant/Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Assistant/Technician to join our team at the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various laboratory tasks, including venipuncture, catheter insertions, and biological specimen collection and processing. They will also be responsible for maintaining inventory, preparing and assembling equipment and supplies, and troubleshooting issues with lab equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform venipuncture and catheter insertions according to established standards
  • Operate laboratory equipment, including training on new equipment
  • Collect, process, and ship biological specimens to local and central laboratories
  • Perform assessments, including collection of body metrics, vital signs, and EKG
  • Source data collection and data entry
  • Maintain inventory of workstations, reagents, and medical supplies
  • Prepare and assemble equipment and supplies for research labs
  • Troubleshoot issues with lab equipment and workstations
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Provide orientation and training to others on lab equipment and procedures
Requirements:
  • College Certificate or equivalent experience in Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant/Technologist program and current registration with CMLTO/CSMLS/MLPAO/OSMT
  • Minimum one year of experience and demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and catheter insertions
  • One year or more of experience working in a lab environment, analyzing and shipping biological samples, and performing medical procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Time management and organizational skills, with attention to detail
