Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Assistant/Technician to join our team at Baycrest. As a key member of our clinical trials team, you will be responsible for supporting the design, conduct, analysis, and publication of clinical trials and other studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture and catheter insertions in accordance with established standards and protocols.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, including training on new technologies and procedures.
  • Collect, process, and ship biological specimens to local and central laboratories.
  • Conduct assessments, including collection of body metrics, vital signs, and EKGs.
  • Source data collection and data entry.
  • Collaborate with research staff to determine lab setup requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of workstations, reagents, and medical supplies.
  • Prepare and assemble materials, equipment, and supplies for research labs.
  • Troubleshoot issues with lab equipment and workstations.
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Provide orientation and training to others on lab equipment and working procedures.
Requirements
  • College Certificate or acceptable combination of equivalent experience in Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant/Technologist program and current registration with CMLTO/CSMLS/MLPAO/OSMT.
  • Minimum one year of experience and demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and catheter insertions.
  • One year or more of experience working in a lab environment, analyzing and shipping biological samples, and performing medical procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills, with diplomacy and tact.
  • Advanced computer skills, including word processing, email, internet, and database management.
