The Alberta Classical Academy is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior Financial Accountant at our central office.

As one of Alberta's newest public charter schools, Alberta Classical Academy provides a challenging liberal arts education aimed at fostering the knowledge, virtues, and habits essential for responsible citizenship.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Secretary Treasurer, the Senior Financial Accountant is required to possess a CPA designation and will assist in ensuring adherence to internal financial policies and accounting standards. This role also involves contributing to the preparation of annual financial statements and interim financial reports.

This is a probationary position that may evolve into a permanent role, with options for part-time or full-time employment, ranging from 0.6 FTE to 1.0 FTE, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and enhance accounting procedures to boost service quality and precision
  2. Conduct monthly bank reconciliations
  3. Assist in the budgeting and financial planning processes
  4. Facilitate the external audit process
  5. Manage the external payroll service provider
  6. Prepare quarterly financial reports
  7. Contribute to the preparation of annual financial statements and corporate tax filings
  8. Perform additional tasks as required

Qualifications and Experience:

Mandatory:

  1. A degree in accounting or finance
  2. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) certification
  3. A minimum of 3 years of successful experience in an accounting role within a small to medium-sized organization

Preferred:

  1. Experience in the education sector or with a public accounting firm is considered an advantage
