Key Responsibilities: Overview of Daily Activities

The Civil Engineering Technologist's responsibilities will vary with the seasons. During the warmer months, the focus will be on full-time Construction Administration duties in the field, while the winter months will involve design work, project coordination, and business development efforts.

  1. Field Construction Oversight:
    1. Conduct on-site observation and inspection of infrastructure projects (including roads and bridges) to ensure compliance with contract specifications and drawings.
    2. Coordinate, monitor, and oversee necessary testing activities to confirm that testing is performed at the required intervals and that results meet standards.
    3. Maintain daily logs of site conditions, activities, quantities, and work progress.
    4. Lead contract administration efforts and assist the Project Manager as needed, including preparing progress payment documents and meeting summaries.
    5. Perform pre-design topographic surveys and provide construction layout using surveying tools such as rod & level, total station, and GPS.
  2. Design Assistance:
    1. Provide design and drafting support utilizing AutoCAD software.
    2. Assist the Project Manager with project coordination and design tasks.
    3. Support the Project Manager by completing quantity takeoffs, developing specifications, and preparing tender documents for roadway projects.

Qualifications: Requirements for Success

  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist in Manitoba, or eligibility for licensure within six months.
  • Two (2) to Five (5) years of relevant work experience. Note that recent graduates of CET programs will also be considered.
  • Possession of a Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for site visits, with mileage reimbursed by Dillon Consulting.

Experience:

  • Experience as a resident inspector on roadway infrastructure projects in urban settings is an asset.
  • Familiarity with surveying equipment such as rod & level, total station, and GPS.
  • Understanding of applicable municipal and provincial standards.
  • Knowledge of contract administration services and requirements.
  • Proficiency in software applications including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
