The role of the Civil Engineering Technologist involves a variety of seasonal responsibilities. During the warmer months, the focus will be on full-time Construction Administration activities in the field, while the winter months will shift towards design, project coordination, and business development initiatives.
- Field Construction Oversight:
- Conduct on-site observation and inspection of infrastructure projects, such as roads and bridges, ensuring compliance with contract specifications and drawings.
- Coordinate, monitor, and verify necessary testing activities to confirm that testing is performed at the required frequency and that results meet standards.
- Maintain daily records of site conditions, activities, quantities, and work progress.
- Lead contract administration efforts and provide support to the Project Manager, including preparing progress payment certificates and meeting documentation.
- Perform pre-design topographic surveys and provide layout assistance during construction using surveying tools like rod & level, total station, and GPS.
- Design Assistance:
- Provide design and drafting support utilizing AutoCAD software.
- Assist the Project Manager with project coordination and design tasks.
- Help the Project Manager by completing quantity takeoffs, developing specifications, and preparing tender documents for roadway projects.
Professional Development:
- Commit to ongoing personal development and continuous learning.
- Engage with professional associations and committees to enhance Dillon's corporate profile.
Qualifications: Essential Requirements for Success
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
- Certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist in Manitoba, or eligibility for licensing within six months.
- Two (2) to Five (5) years of relevant work experience; new graduates from CET programs are also encouraged to apply.
- Possession of a Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for site visits, with mileage reimbursed by Dillon Consulting.
Experience:
- Experience as a resident inspector on roadway infrastructure projects in urban settings is an asset.
- Familiarity with surveying equipment including rod & level, total station, and GPS.
- Understanding of applicable municipal and provincial standards.
- Knowledge of contract administration processes and requirements.
- Proficiency in software applications such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
