Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager and in accordance with the Centre's philosophy, goals, and standard practices, the Trauma Counselor/Facilitator will provide highly specialized supportive services to Indigenous women and their children who have experienced trauma, family violence, involvement with the child welfare and/or the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide trauma-informed counseling and support services to Indigenous women and their children.
  • Assess the needs and risks of offenders and develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Form effective relationships and gain trust with residents/offenders.
  • Assist offenders in identifying and solving practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community.
  • Provide group presentation and facilitation services.
  • Collaborate with community services to obtain support for successful reintegration.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Social Work/Degree in the Social Sciences and at least two years' experience working with Indigenous populations experiencing complex traumas.
  • Comprehensive knowledge, skills, and experience using trauma-informed counseling methodologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues in family violence, child welfare, and criminal justice as it pertains to Indigenous women and children.
  • CPR/First Aid training certificate, a current Child Abuse Registry, and Criminal Records Check required.
Working Conditions:

The Trauma Counselor/Facilitator will work in a fast-paced, often stressful environment and must be able to handle stressful situations effectively.

The Centre reserves the right to consider any combination of work and life experience deemed acceptable.

The successful candidate must have a valid MB Driver's License and be able to obtain Enhanced Security clearance.
