Trauma Support Specialist

Job Summary:
The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Trauma Counselor/Facilitator to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will provide specialized supportive services to Indigenous women and their children who have experienced trauma, family violence, and involvement with the child welfare and/or criminal justice system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide trauma-informed counseling and support services to Indigenous women and their children.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans to promote successful reintegration into the community.
- Collaborate with community partners to identify and access necessary resources and services.
- Conduct assessments and risk evaluations to inform support plans and interventions.
- Provide group presentations and facilitation services to promote healing and empowerment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to promote the Centre's mission and goals.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in trauma-informed practice.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work or degree in the Social Sciences.
- At least two years' experience working with Indigenous populations experiencing complex traumas.
- Comprehensive knowledge, skills, and experience using trauma-informed counseling methodologies.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues in family violence, child welfare, and criminal justice as it pertains to Indigenous women and children.
- Awareness of the effects that lifelong exposure to abuse and family/community violence has on Indigenous women and children.
- Knowledge and respect for Indigenous culture and traditions and Indigenous women's issues.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, often stressful environment.
- Ability to understand the dynamics of offender behavior and assess their needs and risks.
- Skills to counsel residents/offenders, form effective relationships, and gain trust.
- Skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and intervene effectively in crisis situations.
- Ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community.
- Ability to handle stressful situations in an effective, de-escalating manner.
- Excellent assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Group presentation/facilitation skills.
- Basic computer and data processing skills.
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language or dialect an asset.
- CPR/First Aid training certificate, current Child Abuse Registry, and Criminal Records Check required.
- Valid MB Driver's License.
