Director of Technical Consulting – Water Resources

This position offers a remarkable opportunity for an experienced engineer or scientist seeking a pivotal leadership role within our Water practice. You will spearhead the design and implementation of water studies for significant mining initiatives across Canada. Our work encompasses all phases of the mining life-cycle: your contributions will assist clients in conducting initial and expansion-phase environmental assessments, addressing permitting challenges, refining operational strategies, and guiding critical decisions during closure planning.

At ERM Group, a premier global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk, and social consulting services, your efforts will directly influence the success of numerous projects. We have a presence in over 40 countries and collaborate with many Global Fortune 500 companies, delivering innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.

As a Technical Director with extensive leadership experience, you will provide oversight and technical guidance to our Integrated Water Resources team. This role requires leveraging expertise in hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and toxicology, focusing on integrating these disciplines to deliver valuable insights and robust technical analyses, including mass balance and geochemical modeling. You will be the primary contact for clients regarding water management scopes, representing our organization and playing a crucial role in business development and project acquisition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver technical expertise to enhance our water management services and expand our client base in Canada, contributing as a vital member of the core technical team in environmental impact assessment, permitting, risk assessment, water resources management, and site closure.
  • Oversee the preparation of technical documentation in your area of expertise, ranging from hands-on analysis to delegating tasks to junior staff and serving as the senior technical reviewer.
  • Engage in business development within our global impact assessment and planning service area, identifying and cultivating new opportunities, crafting effective technical proposals, and taking a leadership role in securing new business with both new and existing clients.
  • Utilize existing ERM client relationships to enhance our profile and market share through exceptional technical delivery and business development efforts, while fostering deep relationships across various technical disciplines.
  • Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams, integrating different types of work and communicating collective findings to diverse audiences.
Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) with a Master’s or PhD in civil or environmental engineering or a related field.
  • Over 15 years of consulting experience in water resource management, impact assessment, and permitting within the Mining Sector, with specific expertise in hydrometeorology, water balance, geochemical modeling, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, and environmental water quality modeling.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory drivers in the mining and energy sectors, coupled with high technical competence and comprehensive knowledge of impact assessment best practices.
  • Exceptional team-building and influencing skills, with a reputation for integrity and the experience to effectively address client and business needs.
  • Recognized technical authority with a positive reputation among key regulators relevant to environmental approvals.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Excellent English writing and presentation skills.
