Position Overview
*This is a 6-month term position with a notice period of 2 weeks or 1 pay period, whichever is longer.*
The Mid-Level Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the Manager of Accounting Services, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information. This includes investigating account discrepancies for compliance and implementing quality control measures over financial transactions and reporting. The Mid-Level Accountant is also responsible for various accounting tasks, such as analyzing data, preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, performing account reconciliations, and enhancing Excel-based tools.
As an integral member of the Accounting and Finance Team, the Mid-Level Accountant is dedicated to delivering high-quality customer service while adhering to all accounting principles and St.Amant's policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Educational:
- Post-secondary education in accounting at an intermediate level or a comparable combination of education and experience in accounting.
Professional:
- Intermediate to advanced stages of a recognized accounting program (CPA), business degree with a focus on accounting, or a combination of education and experience.
- Two to four years of progressive accounting experience, including roles at an intermediate level.
- Comprehensive understanding of fundamental accounting procedures and principles.
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing processes.
- Proficient in accounting software with strong administrative skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy.
- Strong numerical aptitude and quantitative skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from the Manager to achieve objectives.
- Experience in non-profit accounting is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Virtuo Systems and Caseware is a plus.

- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, including journal entries in accordance with the monthly closing schedule.
- Analyze revenues and expenses to ensure accurate monthly recording.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
- Support cash flow and forecasting analyses.
- Collaborate with senior team members to implement process enhancements.
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Participate in setting financial standards and the forecasting process.
- Contribute to departmental goal-setting initiatives.
- Assist senior accounting team members in creating complex Excel files.
- Analyze budget variances and communicate findings effectively.
- Perform ad hoc duties or projects as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with the Accounting Team to foster a problem-solving approach to process review and improvement implementation.
- Support the Supervisor of Financial Reporting with audit-related documentation to ensure compliance.
