Position Overview

Are you skilled in mechanical systems and enjoy hands-on tasks? Do you appreciate a flexible work schedule and the autonomy of working independently while still having team support? The Technical Service Specialist is a remote-based role focused on customer interaction, primarily within healthcare facilities. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and repairing medical devices utilized in surgical settings, as well as providing installation assistance for intricate mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance customer satisfaction through proactive communication and a commitment to swiftly resolving customer issues.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on STERIS product lines, associated products, and competitor equipment. This encompasses disassembling, replacing, or repairing faulty components; rewiring or reassembling as necessary; troubleshooting, adjusting/calibrating, and certifying equipment for operational readiness using standard and specialized tools and testing equipment (e.g., schematics, diagrams, technical manuals).
  • Actively promote, support, and maintain remote monitoring and diagnostic systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify, overhaul, or refurbish standard and specialized equipment and system components.
  • Ensure a positive customer experience by delivering timely preventive maintenance, service calls, warranty support, and field upgrade programs. Lead installation projects as needed and perform conversions on standard equipment.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior technicians, especially during their initial training period.
  • Utilize technology (smartphones, computers, and relevant software) to perform assigned administrative tasks to ensure effective planning and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with the District Service Manager to communicate activities and changes related to sales opportunities in your designated area.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with customers, management, support teams, and the sales organization.
  • Contribute to company growth by identifying sales opportunities and recommending STERIS products and services to clients.
  • Respond to general customer and sales inquiries regarding equipment operation and performance.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with customers, contractors, management, and colleagues.
Qualifications

Education/License Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in electronics, mechanical engineering, or a related field, along with one to two years of relevant experience is strongly preferred.
  • A High School Diploma or GED with at least two years of relevant experience is required.

Experience/Skills Requirements

  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer communication abilities.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Proficient in computer use and Windows software.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple and changing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

  • This position involves routine walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing, reaching, and twisting.
  • Must be able to perform tasks from floor level to above shoulder height.
  • Must be comfortable climbing ladders and/or scaffolds and working at heights.
  • Travel to customer locations, including hospitals and laboratories, is required.
  • Flexible scheduling may be necessary to meet customer needs.
