We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Specialist to join our team at the Ontario Public Service. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our farm, ensuring the highest standards of sustainability and productivity.
Key Responsibilities- Manage Farm Operations: Oversee the overall operation of the farm, including planning, coordinating, and implementing agricultural activities such as planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops.
- Sustainable Farming Practices: Develop and implement sustainable farming practices, such as crop rotation, reduced-till or no-till, water and nutrient management, precision farming technology, and cover crops.
- Animal Care: Develop and guide the behavior of farm animals, and ensure their health and well-being.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
- Financial Management: Manage financial and production records, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Staff Supervision: Recruit, hire, and supervise staff and/or volunteers, and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Health and Safety: Administer first aid in emergency situations, and ensure a safe working environment for all staff and visitors.
- Education: Other trades certificate or diploma, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Experience an asset.
- Language: Fluency in English.
- Transportation: Valid driver's license.
- Competitive Salary: As per collective agreement.
