We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Specialist to join our team at the Ontario Public Service. As a key member of our agricultural operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of our farm, ensuring the highest standards of crop and livestock production, and implementing sustainable farming practices.
Key Responsibilities- Crop Management: Develop and implement crop rotation plans, ensure optimal soil health, and coordinate planting and cultivating activities to maximize yields.
- Livestock Management: Develop and guide the behavior of farm animals, manage feed inventory, and oversee the health and well-being of livestock.
- Farm Operations: Coordinate the activities of clearing fields, maintain and manage growth of vines, and oversee the overall operation of the farm.
- Supply Chain Management: Purchase machinery, livestock, seed, feed, and other supplies as needed.
- Financial Management: Maintain financial and production records, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Team Management: Recruit, hire, and supervise staff and/or volunteers as needed.
- Maintenance and Repair: Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, and perform general farm duties.
- Health and Safety: Administer first aid in emergency situations and ensure a safe working environment.
- Education: Other trades certificate or diploma, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Experience in agricultural operations, crop and livestock management, and farm management.
- Language: English.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license.
- Health Benefits: Dental plan, disability benefits, health care plan, paramedical services coverage, and vision care benefits.
- Financial Benefits: As per collective agreement.
