Sanitation Supervisor

The Sanitation Supervisor plays a pivotal role in guiding team members to ensure that the facility and all food processing equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, adhering to safety protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This position is essential in fostering continuous improvement and addressing non-conformance issues. The Sanitation Supervisor will collaborate with operations to implement targeted enhancements and will develop, communicate, and lead local strategies to ensure compliance with Barry Callebaut's regional and global standards. Responsibilities include conducting sanitation system assessments and supporting corrective actions to meet quality, food safety, regulatory, and customer expectations. A strong commitment to food and employee safety is paramount.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster a safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to supervisory roles and responsibilities under health and safety regulations.
  • Plan, manage, and oversee sanitation procedures and regulatory compliance, ensuring all equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition.
  • Uphold high standards of sanitation, GMPs, and health and safety protocols.
  • Develop operational policies for a primarily dry facility, minimizing water usage for sensitive products.
  • Create and manage Master Sanitation Schedules for all facilities, ensuring optimal sanitation of production areas and equipment.
  • Conduct inspections to identify unsanitary conditions and implement corrective measures promptly.
  • Mentor and motivate team members, providing training to enhance their performance and growth.
  • Participate in meetings with plant management to discuss sanitation and quality improvements.
  • Manage staffing needs for absences and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Collaborate with associates to ensure timely completion of work orders.
  • Assist in developing and reporting sanitation KPIs.
  • Oversee sanitation inventory and procurement of cleaning supplies.
  • Ensure appropriate use of cleaning chemicals, including verification and titration processes.
  • Validate cleaning methodologies, ensuring alignment with global standards and best practices.
  • Develop Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs) as required.
  • Conduct internal food safety audits as part of the food safety team.
  • Train sanitation and production staff on effective sanitation practices.
  • Ensure timely completion of cleaning tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance manager to utilize data trends for updating sanitation practices.
  • Provide recommendations for hygienic design and cleanability improvements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Preventive Action reporting.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Meet or exceed food safety and employee safety standards.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food plant sanitation preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety, Chemical Safety, Microbiology, GMP principles, and sanitation practices.
  • Understanding of cleaning processes, including both wet and dry methods.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications (SAP, Microsoft Office, Google).
  • Experience with ISO and GFSI standards is highly desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This role involves significant physical activity, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Protective equipment will be required where appropriate.
