Position Overview:

The Economic Growth Consultant plays a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the City’s Economic Development initiatives, focusing on both the retention and attraction of businesses within the Commercial and Residential sectors. This role involves fostering and nurturing collaborative relationships with business stakeholders, property developers, external collaborators, and various City departments. The position is accountable to the Director of Economic and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development
• Drive initiatives that enhance business growth.
• Contribute to the formulation of policies and programs.
• Serve as the primary liaison for businesses and property developers in the Commercial and Residential sectors, addressing issues that impact their competitiveness.
• Encourage and facilitate multi-family and specialized residential projects (such as assisted living and senior facilities) within the community.
• Attract and secure investments while promoting the area as an ideal location for living and conducting business.
• Identify available commercial and residential properties, providing timely information to businesses and developers.
• Support existing businesses in marketing their offerings.

Market Analysis
• Oversee market research, feasibility assessments, and strategic planning related to the Commercial and Residential sectors.
• Take a leading role in developing and executing strategies to enhance the City Centre district as a vibrant hub for commerce and community engagement.
• Participate in the creation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Decisions (RFDs), GIS mapping, and the corporate planning process for the department.

Information and Promotion
• Assess the need for and create a variety of promotional materials to attract businesses and investors, including community profiles, brochures, websites, videos, trade shows, and economic databases.
• Maintain the Commercial and Residential sections of the Economic Development website, including a database of real estate listings available for sale and lease.

Client and Partner Engagement
• Collaborate with regional economic development organizations, other municipalities, business partners, and internal departments to advance the City’s economic development objectives.
• Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars related to economic development to stay informed about the latest trends.
• Coordinate the City’s participation in special events that align with economic development initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:
• A post-secondary degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
• Five to six years of relevant experience.
• A strong foundation in community economic and business development.
• The capability to effectively manage economic development and related planning processes.
• Proficiency in conducting economic and market research.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with:
• Certification as an Economic Development Specialist from a recognized professional program.
