Position Overview:

The Economic Growth Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the City's Economic Development initiatives, focusing on the retention and attraction of both Commercial and Residential sectors. This role involves cultivating and sustaining collaborative relationships with business stakeholders, land developers, external collaborators, and various City departments. The position is accountable to the Director of Economic and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development
• Champion initiatives that foster business growth.
• Contribute to the formulation of policies and programs.
• Serve as the primary liaison for businesses and land developers in the Commercial and Residential sectors, addressing challenges that impact competitiveness.
• Promote and attract multi-family and specialized residential projects (such as assisted living and senior facilities) within the community.
• Attract and retain investments while marketing the area as an ideal location for living and conducting business.
• Identify available commercial and residential properties, providing timely information to businesses and developers.
• Support existing businesses in marketing their offerings.

Business Analysis
• Oversee market research, feasibility assessments, and strategic planning for the Commercial and Residential sectors.
• Take a leadership role in crafting and executing initiatives aimed at enhancing the vibrancy of the City Centre district for both businesses and the community.
• Participate in the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Decisions (RFDs), GIS mapping, and the corporate planning process for the department.

Information and Promotion
• Identify needs and create various promotional and marketing materials to attract businesses and investors, including community profiles, brochures, websites, videos, trade shows, and economic databases.
• Maintain the Commercial and Residential sections of the Economic Development website, including a database of real estate listings available for sale and lease.

Client and Partner Support
• Collaborate with regional economic development organizations, other municipalities, business, and community partners, as well as internal departments to promote the City's economic development objectives.
• Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars related to economic development to stay informed about the latest trends.
• Coordinate the City's participation in special events that align with economic development initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:
• A post-secondary degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
• Five to six years of relevant experience.
• A solid foundation in community economic and business development.
• Proficiency in managing economic development and related planning processes.
• Skills in conducting economic and market research.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with:
• Certification as an Economic Development Specialist from a recognized professional program.
