Position Overview:

The Commercial Development Advisor plays a crucial role in advancing the Economic Development objectives of the City, focusing on the retention and attraction of both Commercial and Residential sectors. This position is responsible for cultivating and sustaining relationships with business clients, property developers, external stakeholders, and various City departments. The role reports directly to the Director of Economic and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development

• Champion initiatives aimed at fostering business growth.

• Contribute to the formulation of policies and programs.

• Serve as the primary contact for businesses and developers in the Commercial and Residential sectors to address issues impacting their competitiveness.

• Promote and encourage multi-family and specialized residential projects (such as assisted living and senior facilities) within the community.

• Attract and secure investments while marketing the area as an ideal location for living and business.

• Identify available commercial and residential properties and assist developers by providing timely and relevant information.

• Support existing businesses in marketing their products and services effectively.

Market Analysis

• Oversee market research, feasibility assessments, and strategic planning related to the Commercial and Residential sectors.

• Take a leadership role in initiatives aimed at enhancing the vibrancy of the City Centre district for both business and community engagement.

• Participate in the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Decisions (RFDs), GIS mapping, and the corporate planning process for the department.

Promotion and Communication

• Identify needs and create a variety of promotional materials to attract businesses and investors, including community profiles, brochures, websites, videos, trade shows, and economic databases.

• Maintain the Commercial and Residential sections of the Economic Development website, including a database of real estate listings available for sale or lease.

• Oversee the maintenance of the Sweet Life Found website.

Partner and Client Engagement

• Collaborate with regional economic development organizations, other municipalities, business partners, and internal departments to promote the City’s economic development objectives.

• Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars related to economic development to stay informed about the latest trends.

• Coordinate the City’s participation in special events that align with economic development initiatives, such as public markets and seasonal festivals.

• Represent the Economic and Business Development Department in meetings with City Administration and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates who possess:

• A post-secondary degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, or a related field.

• Five to six years of relevant experience.

• A solid foundation in community economic and business development.

• The capability to effectively manage economic development and related planning processes.

• Proficiency in conducting economic and market research.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with:

• Certification as an Economic Development Specialist from a recognized professional program.
