The Commercial Development Advisor plays a crucial role in advancing the economic objectives of Spruce Grove, focusing on both the retention and attraction of businesses within the Commercial and Residential sectors. This position is pivotal in fostering relationships with business stakeholders, land developers, external collaborators, and various City departments. The role reports directly to the Director of Economic and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development

• Drive initiatives that enhance business growth.

• Contribute to the formulation of policies and programs.

• Serve as the primary contact for businesses and land developers, addressing challenges that impact their competitiveness.

• Promote and attract diverse residential developments, including multi-family and specialized facilities in Spruce Grove.

• Retain and attract investments while marketing the community as an ideal location for living and conducting business.

• Identify and provide timely information on available commercial and residential properties to assist businesses and developers.

• Support existing businesses in marketing their offerings.

Business Analysis

• Oversee market research, feasibility assessments, and strategic planning for the Commercial and Residential sectors.

• Lead initiatives aimed at revitalizing Spruce Grove's City Centre as a dynamic hub for commerce and community engagement.

• Participate in the creation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Decisions (RFDs), GIS mapping, and the corporate planning process for the department.

Information and Promotion

• Assess the need for and develop various promotional materials to attract businesses and investors, including community profiles, brochures, websites, videos, trade shows, and economic databases.

• Maintain the Economic Development website's Commercial and Residential sections, including a database of real estate listings available for sale and lease.

• Oversee the management of the Sweet Life Found website.

Client/Partner Support

• Collaborate with regional economic development organizations, other municipalities, business, and community partners to further the City's economic development objectives.

• Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars to stay informed about the latest trends in economic development.

• Coordinate the City's participation in special events related to economic development initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A post-secondary degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, or a related field.

• Five to six years of relevant experience.

• A solid foundation in community economic and business development.

• Proficiency in managing economic development and related planning processes.

• Expertise in conducting economic and market research.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with:

• Certification as an Economic Development Specialist from a recognized professional program.
