Position Overview

Are you enthusiastic about advancing your nursing career? We are offering a unique educational opportunity for a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to enhance their skills in the Operating Room department.

The Licensed Practical Nurse in this role will deliver practical nursing services within a surgical environment, collaborating with an integrated surgical team to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures. Responsibilities include performing scrubbing and circulating duties, as well as engaging in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care. This encompasses assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care while providing support to patients and their families.

Program Details

The AORN Periop-101 course is a comprehensive blended learning program designed to equip nurses with foundational perioperative nursing skills. This program consists of a 7-week course that combines online learning with hands-on practicum experience under the guidance of a preceptor. Participants will be prepared to deliver safe and competent perioperative nursing care at a novice level.

  • One training position is available for the upcoming educational cycle.
  • Support for placement and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements will be provided.
  • Participants should anticipate a month-long commitment that includes both online and in-person learning components.
  • Additional study time outside of scheduled hours may be necessary to successfully complete the program.
  • Flexibility for practicum scheduling is essential.
  • Completion of the educational program is required prior to assuming duties in the department.
  • Following successful completion, an eighteen (18) month return of service in a relevant nursing position is required.
  • Qualified candidates will be prioritized for specialty roles; unqualified applicants may receive training if no qualified candidates are available.

Work Schedule

Education schedules will vary as training is ongoing. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:00.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program with full competencies, along with completion of an accredited O.R. program and one (1) year of recent relevant experience in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current full practicing licensure with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Valid CPR certification is required.
