Position Overview

Are you enthusiastic about advancing your nursing expertise? We offer a unique educational opportunity for a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse eager to enhance their skills in a dynamic operating room setting.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Operating Room, you will deliver essential nursing services as part of a cohesive surgical team engaged in various surgical procedures. Your role will involve collaborating with fellow team members to ensure safe and effective surgical practices, including scrubbing and circulating duties in line with established protocols. This encompasses pre-operative, operative, and post-operative responsibilities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care, while also providing support to patients and their families.

Program Details

The AORN Periop-101 course is a comprehensive blended learning program designed to equip nurses with foundational perioperative nursing skills. This program consists of a 7-week course combined with practical experience under the guidance of a preceptor to solidify your skills. It prepares nurses to deliver safe and competent perioperative care at an entry-level.

  • One training position is available for the upcoming program cycle.
  • Support for placement and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements will be provided.
  • Participants should anticipate a month-long commitment to this educational program, which includes both online and in-person components.
  • Additional study time outside of scheduled hours may be necessary to successfully complete the program.
  • Flexibility in scheduling for practicums is essential.
  • Completion of the educational program is required prior to assuming duties in the department.
  • Following successful completion, an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular nursing position relevant to the program is required.
  • Qualified candidates will be prioritized for specialty roles. If no qualified candidates are available, training opportunities will be extended to unqualified applicants with training provided.

Work Schedule

Education schedules will vary as training is ongoing. Specific hours of work will be Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:00.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program with full competencies, and completion of an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses, along with one (1) year of recent relevant experience in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current full practicing licensure with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Valid CPR certification is mandatory.
