Qualifications and Requirements

Island Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support our research initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background in research methods and statistical analysis, as well as experience in data collection and project management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research projects
  • Collect and analyze data using various software packages, including project management, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor and implement various work projects and assignments with limited supervision
  • Provide training and support to colleagues on the use of software common to the organization
  • Resolve minor equipment problems, such as with printers and scanners
  • Utilize strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, empathy, and tact, to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Perform complex mathematical calculations under pressure
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education equivalent to two years, including courses in research methods and statistical analysis, project management, data collection, report writing, graphic arts layout and design, computer operating systems, and advanced use of word processing, project management, desktop publishing, graphic design, web site design, data base and spreadsheet software
  • Three years of experience in the application of data collection methods and statistical analysis, supplemented by an additional year in the application of graphic arts and presentation methods, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to type 50 wpm
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate and instruct others in the use of software common to the organization
  • Ability to problem-solve minor equipment problems
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to monitor and implement various work projects and assignments with limited supervision
  • Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail
  • Ability to make complex mathematical calculations under pressure
