Compensation Overview:
Recruitment Range: $69,052 - $76,129, with starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance Range: Starting salary to a maximum of $89,791, achievable through annual performance evaluations.
Position Summary
The Vice President Research and Innovation (VPRI) portfolio encompasses various units, including the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (OVPRI), Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) Unit, Office of Research Services, Animal Care Services, and the Research Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization (RPKM) Unit. The OVPRI plays a crucial role in overseeing and guiding the research agenda at the institutional level, setting strategic priorities, and leading initiatives to foster the growth and success of research at UVic.
The Research Agreements Facilitator (RAF), reporting to the Manager of Research Agreements, is tasked with reviewing external research funding agreements and agreements related to research and intellectual property generated at the University. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparation, interpretation, and negotiation of contracts.
- Administration and implementation of University policies and guidelines regarding research and intellectual property.
- Providing subject matter expertise and contributing to the development of templates for common research and intellectual property arrangements.
- Liaising with contracting agencies and facilitating internal communication about University policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Qualifications
An undergraduate degree coupled with a minimum of three years of experience in contract review and drafting, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience is required. A paralegal certificate is considered an asset.
Essential qualifications include:
- Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation and familiarity with the legal framework surrounding contracts, including relevant legal terms and concepts applicable to research contracting.
- Experience with international agreements and an understanding of intellectual property rights and risks associated with ownership and usage arrangements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively, prioritize tasks, and make informed decisions within shifting deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Preference may be given to candidates with strong database management skills, significant experience in contract negotiation, and knowledge of university policies relevant to contracts and agreements, including Intellectual Property, Liability, and Insurance.
