Role Summary:
As a vital member of the Canada Impact team, reporting to the Senior Manager of External Communications, you will spearhead the development and execution of engaging communication strategies that enhance and safeguard the brand's reputation across Canada. Your primary goal is to bolster the standing of one of the nation’s most recognized brands while collaborating with specialists in strategic communications, public affairs, and sustainability from our regional and global offices.

Key Responsibilities:
Your role is essential in implementing both proactive and reactive communication strategies across various platforms to foster trust with the Canadian public while supporting business objectives. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Designing and executing comprehensive external communication strategies that promote positive recognition of the McDonald's brand.
  • Providing strategic advice to leadership and key departments on external communications, messaging, and engagement initiatives.
  • Overseeing the management of McDonald's PR Agency to ensure effective execution of communication plans.
  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with journalists, influencers, and key internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborating closely with the Canada Impact Team and the North American Impact Team to ensure cohesive external communication efforts.
  • Managing media inquiries for McDonald's Canada and serving as a spokesperson when necessary.
  • Implementing communication processes to evaluate campaign effectiveness and facilitate year-end reporting.
  • Coordinating media response strategies for both local and national brand issues.
  • Assisting the Canada Impact Team and McDonald's Canada business in managing issues and crisis situations as needed.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A passion for the McDonald's brand.
  • A Bachelor's degree or postgraduate certificate in a communications-related field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in communications, with a focus on external communications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the dynamic media landscape, including social media and digital platforms.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • The capability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with a solid understanding of public relations principles.
  • Expertise in crafting engaging and relevant communication materials.
  • Experience in media relations and managing agency partnerships.
  • Adeptness in navigating media challenges and crises for brands.
  • Familiarity with modern methods for assessing communication impact.
  • A collaborative team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of an integrated team while maintaining independence.
