Job Summary: The Health Care Aide at Phoenix Society operates under the guidance of a Licensed Practical Nurse or designated personnel, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate client care in line with established policies, standards, and procedures.

Work Performed Client Services: Foster and sustain therapeutic relationships with patients, clients, and families, providing support in accordance with established care plans. Welcome patients, assist with personal belongings, create a safe and comfortable environment, orient clients to their surroundings, and uphold confidentiality and respect for patient rights. Assist in nursing care delivery under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse or designate, performing tasks such as recording vital signs, administering dressings, supporting personal hygiene, and assisting clinicians during procedures. Monitor and observe patient/client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, reporting significant findings to the Licensed Practical Nurse or designate. Respond to call bells and alarms, alerting the appropriate health care team member and assisting as necessary, and manage emergent situations according to unit guidelines. Utilize mechanical aids for client transport and provide assistance with positioning and transferring clients while adhering to safety techniques. Retrieve lab results and patient information from external systems. Contribute suggestions for enhancing client care and the efficient operation of the area.
Operations: Ensure a clean and safe environment, maintaining call lights within reach, making beds, and reporting any incidents or equipment issues. Prepare rooms for discharge cleaning and assist in room setup according to established procedures. Clean shared equipment and maintain supplies in various areas, notifying others of depleting stock. Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
Administration: Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, providing general information, and maintaining patient flow.
Qualifications: Post-secondary diploma in nursing assistance or a related field. 1 to 3 years of experience in trauma-informed acute or community health nursing care. Current registration with the BC Care Aide Registry is mandatory. Completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required. Completion of Tuberculosis Screening and Employee Immunization Record forms is necessary. First Aid and Current CPR certification is essential. A valid driver's license is required.
Skills & Knowledge: Understanding of community health nursing theory, including mental health and addictions. Proficiency in computer literacy for operating patient care information systems. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities in English. Commitment to the social sector and passion for the organization's mission.
