Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Mental Health Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the daily operations of support and advocacy services. This includes overseeing social, recreational, volunteer, and food programs while ensuring the safety and well-being of participants through the application of psychosocial rehabilitation principles aligned with the mission and objectives of Coast Mental Health.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement and facilitate programs, including leisure activities, cooking, and housekeeping, by engaging clients in daily life skills.
2. Deliver community-based psychosocial rehabilitation services by identifying and assisting clients in accessing community programs and resources.
3. Educate and model essential life skills and strategies for self-care, independent living, and interaction with external social agencies.
4. Utilize effective communication strategies, such as role modeling, to establish a collaborative relationship with clients.
5. Provide support and information to help clients enhance self-esteem and develop decision-making abilities through various techniques.
6. Assist clients in identifying and accessing both formal and informal community supports, including leisure, vocational, and educational services, promoting active community integration.
7. Monitor and document the physical and mental health status of clients, taking necessary actions as required.
8. Advocate for clients to uphold their rights and dignity.
9. Collaborate professionally with clients, peers, supervisors, other agencies, and family members.
10. Develop personalized life skills programs with clients, involving family, friends, and community resources as appropriate.
11. Ensure compliance with the QWIK process and complete administrative tasks within designated timeframes.
12. Conduct formal and informal assessments, such as interviews, to create individualized plans that identify clients' interests and needs.
13. Safely distribute medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
14. Oversee the implementation of program maintenance, housekeeping, and cooking tasks.
15. Identify and address health and safety concerns as they arise.
16. Perform assigned administrative duties.
17. Maintain accurate records as required.
18. Carry out additional functions or duties as necessary.
19. May be responsible for directing students and volunteers.
20. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
