About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Services Manager to join our team at the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and administering the food services operation at our institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate the overall kitchen and food services operations, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of meals to inmates.
  • Provide technical, administrative, and operational direction to staff, including supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Manage and coordinate the kitchen workflow, including assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and resolving employee relations matters.
  • Develop and implement effective and efficient food preparation and production methods, ensuring compliance with Public Health standards.
  • Inspect kitchen, dishwashing, and distribution areas to ensure cleanliness and a pest-free environment.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment to ensure proper and safe operation, storage, waste management, and compliance with Public Health standards.
  • Prepare and assume responsibility for the food services operating budget, including ordering requirements, inventory management, and payment of monthly billings.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to staff and inmate helpers, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements
  • Proven leadership and management experience in a high-volume cooking facility, with a strong track record of achieving business goals and priorities.
  • Knowledge of food services management, including cooking and preparation methods and procedures, cost control, menu planning principles, restricted diet and basic nutrition, meat preparation, and equipment operation and care.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve a range of food services operational issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior management, institutional staff, suppliers, and stakeholders.
