The Communications and Media Relations team partners with various FNHA program areas, leadership, regional teams, and health partners to assist First Nations in achieving their health and wellness objectives. The team is responsible for strategic communications, publishing, graphic design services, and creating content across multiple channels to ensure effective messaging for both internal and external audiences.

Position: Senior Communications Officer – Media and Government Relations
Salary: $84,250 - $99,117 - $113,985 per year
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)
Location: FNHA's Park Royal Office location. Hybrid working is an option in line with FNHA's flex work policy.

Role Overview
In the capacity of Senior Communications Officer - Media and Government Relations, you will provide essential support to the Director of Communications and Health Promotion in areas such as proactive media engagement, government relations, media training, and issues management. Your role will involve conveying complex and often urgent communications to a diverse range of stakeholders, including external media outlets. You will serve as the primary contact for external media inquiries and collaborate with the Director to develop proactive media relations strategies and content that align with FNHA's mission and objectives. You will evaluate interview requests from media representatives, identify suitable spokespeople, and coordinate interview logistics.

Candidate Profile
To excel in this position, you should possess a University Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Writing, or Journalism, or a relevant combination of education, training, and experience. A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in media relations with increasing responsibilities is required, along with at least 5 years of experience in a First Nations context, particularly in crafting key messages, press releases, and communications that are culturally sensitive and appropriate.

You may have experience in roles such as Communications Officer or Communications Generalist.
