About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Investment Analyst to join our team at TransAlta. As a key member of our investment analysis team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and managing investments in the power generation and utilities sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models to evaluate potential investment opportunities
  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow projections, and other financial data to support investment decisions
  • Conduct market research and analysis on the power generation and utilities sector, including trends, regulatory impacts, and competitive landscape
  • Evaluate macroeconomic factors and their potential impact on investment opportunities
  • Assist in the development and execution of the company's investment strategy, aligning with corporate goals and risk appetite
  • Identify and recommend new investment opportunities in renewable energy, traditional power generation, and other utility-related assets
  • Monitor and report on the performance of existing investments, including financial performance, operational efficiency, and market positioning
  • Provide recommendations for portfolio optimization, including divestitures, reinvestments, and strategic partnerships
  • Lead and participate in due diligence processes, including financial, operational, and legal reviews of potential investment opportunities
  • Prepare and present detailed investment analysis and recommendations to senior management, investment committees, and other stakeholders
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. MBA, CFA, or similar advanced certifications preferred.
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in investment analysis, financial modeling, or related roles
  • Prior experience in investment banking, corporate finance, equity research or other valuation-driven roles
  • Accounting knowledge would also be an asset
  • Prior experience working in the power industry, power generation, or energy sector
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and financial analysis tools. Familiarity with industry-specific software and databases.
  • Solid understanding of the power generation and utilities sector, including regulatory environments, market trends, and key players.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to and influence senior management.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
