TransAlta is seeking a highly skilled Senior Investment Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our investment analysis team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and managing investments in the power generation and utilities sector.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain complex financial models to evaluate potential investment opportunities
- Analyze financial statements, cash flow projections, and other financial data to support investment decisions
- Conduct market research and analysis on the power generation and utilities sector, including trends, regulatory impacts, and competitive landscape
- Evaluate macroeconomic factors and their potential impact on investment opportunities
- Assist in the development and execution of the company's investment strategy, aligning with corporate goals and risk appetite
- Identify and recommend new investment opportunities in renewable energy, traditional power generation, and other utility-related assets
- Monitor and report on the performance of existing investments, including financial performance, operational efficiency, and market positioning
- Provide recommendations for portfolio optimization, including divestitures, reinvestments, and strategic partnerships
- Lead and participate in due diligence processes, including financial, operational, and legal reviews of potential investment opportunities
- Prepare and present detailed investment analysis and recommendations to senior management, investment committees, and other stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. MBA, CFA, or similar advanced certifications preferred.
- 4 to 7 years of experience in investment analysis, financial modeling, or related roles
- Prior experience in investment banking, corporate finance, equity research or other valuation-driven roles
- Accounting knowledge would also be an asset
- Prior experience working in the power industry, power generation, or energy sector
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and financial analysis tools. Familiarity with industry-specific software and databases.
- Solid understanding of the power generation and utilities sector, including regulatory environments, market trends, and key players.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to and influence senior management.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
