Radiation Physics Support Specialist

Unit Overview

The Medical Physics Department is dedicated to providing scientific and technical assistance for the Radiation Treatment Program. This encompasses the maintenance of treatment and imaging apparatus, ensuring quality control, and the design and creation of specialized therapeutic devices. Responsibilities also include dose assessment and calculation, radiation safety protocols, and the advancement of innovative radiation treatment methodologies. The department is actively involved in educational initiatives at various academic levels and engages in research focused on pioneering cancer diagnosis and treatment techniques.

Position Overview

The Physics Assistant will be tasked with conducting quality assurance evaluations on radiation therapy and physics apparatus, implementing corrective measures in collaboration with the supervising physicist. This role includes maintaining detailed records of quality assurance assessments, procedures, and measurements; executing routine dosimetry during radiation therapy, preparing radioactive materials for surgical applications, and performing standard radiation safety tasks such as surveys or wipe tests under the guidance of the Radiation Safety Officer. The incumbent will support physicists and radiation therapists during specialized radiation therapy interventions and undertake additional related responsibilities as assigned.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• Honours BSc in Physics or a comparable combination of education and experience
• Experience in a radiation physics setting is advantageous
• Proficient computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets, word processing, and database management. Familiarity with programming and mathematical software is a plus
• Strong mathematical abilities and exceptional analytical skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with demonstrated interpersonal capabilities

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
