Position Overview

The Senior Subrogation Specialist plays a crucial role in the investigation, assessment, and resolution of General and Automobile Liability claims. This position primarily handles claims with low to medium exposure, including first and third-party automobile bodily injury and property damage claims, as well as premises liability and product liability incidents. The specialist must possess the necessary legal and technical qualifications to manage all claims effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

· Negotiate liability, settlements, and payment arrangements with involved parties.

· Formulate resolution strategies by identifying filing options (such as litigation or collection agency involvement) to recover payments where subrogation opportunities are present across various claim types.

· Collaborate with field personnel and investigative agencies to gather essential documentation to support recovery efforts.

· Notify responsible parties or their insurers through written correspondence and/or phone communications. Maintain comprehensive documentation of all interactions related to the claim, including conversations, correspondence, current file updates, subrogation analysis, resolution recommendations, and applicable state negligence laws. Oversee claims throughout the subrogation process until final resolution is achieved.

· Provide assistance to both internal and external clients regarding minor inquiries.

· Comprehend and adhere to the California Department of Insurance Regulations and the General Liability Claims Handling Guidelines established by George Hills.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Strong ethical standards and integrity in all dealings.

· Proficient understanding of relevant legal documents associated with claims.

· Familiarity with all regulatory requirements and guidelines.

· Ability to make informed discretionary decisions regarding the settlement and resolution of subrogation claims.

· Proactive management of assigned cases in alignment with client and company expectations.

· Ability to foster collaborative relationships with clients and colleagues.

· Proficient in operating office equipment and utilizing software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and claims management systems.

· Capacity to multitask and adapt to changing priorities efficiently.

· Effectiveness in a fast-paced office environment is essential.

· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow directions.

· Effective communication skills for tactful interactions with co-workers.

· Ability to meet strict deadlines while producing accurate and thorough work.

· Willingness to travel by car for extended periods for job-related functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

· A minimum of five years’ experience in insurance claims, self-insurance, pooled insurance, or related fields.

· Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.


• At least three years of experience using Microsoft Windows, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.


• At least two years of experience with video conferencing tools such as Teams and Zoom, including the ability to set up and host group meetings effectively.


• At least two years of experience with claims management software or the ability to quickly learn new systems related to claims management.
