Position Overview

The Senior Subrogation Specialist is responsible for investigating, assessing, and resolving General and Automobile Liability claims. This role typically involves claims with low to medium exposure, including first and third-party automobile bodily injury and property damage claims, as well as premises liability and product liability incidents. The specialist must possess the necessary legal and technical qualifications to manage all claims effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

· Negotiate liability, settlements, and payment arrangements.

· Develop resolution strategies by identifying filing options (such as litigation or collection agencies) to recover payments when subrogation potential is recognized across various claim types.

· Collaborate with field personnel and investigative agencies to gather documentation that supports recovery efforts.

· Notify responsible parties or their insurers through written correspondence and/or phone communication. Maintain detailed records of all interactions related to the claim, including conversations, correspondence, current file updates, subrogation analysis, and recommendations for resolution, while adhering to applicable state negligence laws. Monitor claims throughout the subrogation process until final resolution.

· Provide assistance to both internal and external clients regarding minor inquiries.

· Comprehend and comply with the California Department of Insurance Regulations and the General Liability Claims Handling Guidelines set forth by George Hills.

· Strong collaborative skills to build relationships with clients and colleagues.

· Proficient in operating office equipment and utilizing software, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and claims management systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

· A minimum of five years of experience in insurance claims, self-insurance, or pooled insurance.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


· At least three years of experience using Microsoft Windows, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.


· A minimum of two years of experience with video conferencing tools such as Teams and Zoom, including the ability to set up and host group meetings.


· At least two years of experience with claims management software or the ability to quickly learn new systems related to claims management.
