Indigenous Community Engagement Specialist

Canfor, a prominent player in the natural resources sector, is on the lookout for a dedicated Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator to enhance their team. This pivotal position is centered on cultivating and reinforcing collaborations with Indigenous communities throughout the Kootenay Region. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in progressing Canfor's connections with First Nations and must possess a background in Indigenous relations and community involvement.
- Primary Responsibilities:
- Offer strategic guidance and assistance to Woodlands personnel and leadership to promote Canfor's Indigenous Engagement Strategy.
- Work alongside Woodlands staff to streamline approval procedures for operational plans and permits.
- Establish protocols and agreements with Indigenous entities while nurturing relationships with Indigenous leaders and organizations.
- Ensure uniformity and best practices throughout the organization in engaging with Indigenous communities.
- Assist in outreach initiatives and identify collaborative opportunities within the region.
Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional communication abilities, experience in conflict resolution, and a robust history of working with Indigenous communities. A degree in Indigenous studies or natural resource management is advantageous, along with knowledge of the forestry sector.
