Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Thompson Rivers University team as an E-Learning Support Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality digital learning environments, working closely with instructional designers and other stakeholders to ensure seamless course delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Course Development and Maintenance: Utilize document languages such as XML, HTML, and Wiki Markup to format and structure course content, adhering to TRU design standards and templates.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with instructional designers to determine presentation, environment, model, and tools, and liaise with staff and faculty to analyze and determine solutions to technical, communication, and media needs.
  • Technical Support and Maintenance: Maintain technical integrity of course materials, amend print materials, provide new master print files to Printshop, and develop print-on-demand strategies.
  • File Management and Security: Maintain TRU file management and version control standards across multiple servers and data repositories, and ensure security of sensitive course material and digital assets.
  • Testing and Evaluation: Test and evaluate new learning technologies for presentation platforms against established criteria, and identify opportunities for workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and quality of department.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor degree in a related program such as Computing Science, Digital Arts and Design, or Educational Technology.
  • Experience: Two years of directly related experience.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Skill in digital publishing, hand-coding HTML, CSS, and web development applications such as Wiki Markup, Word Press, and Acrobat Pro; demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and thoroughness; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks; willingness to learn and instruct others on new techniques; strong working knowledge of word processing for large documents, particularly using Microsoft Word; familiarity with document languages such as XML, Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard and Moodle, and syndication tools; familiarity with conversion processes between different document languages; familiarity with PHP; knowledge of production and graphics applications such as MathType, Photoshop, Fireworks, or Illustrator is desirable.
