Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Manager/Quality Leader in Laboratory Services, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) plays a crucial role in the collection of specimens, utilizing techniques such as phlebotomy and micro-sampling. The MLA is also responsible for conducting and explaining various procedures, including ECGs and specialized tests like the Glucose Tolerance Test and Sweat Test. Flexibility to work a rotating schedule, which may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, is essential. Shifts typically consist of 8 to 12 hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Laboratory Assistant Training Program.
  • Certification from the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT), MLPAO, or Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of technical training or experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail in maintaining accurate records.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance.
