Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

**KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat resistant alloys and high nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology. As per customer requirements, Kubota designs and casts centrifugal pipes and static castings of fittings which are then machined, welded (Automatic, Semi-Automatic, Orbital & Manual) GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, followed by in house NDT (RT, PT, VT), in house DT, R&D lab, as well as hydro testing.**

**KEY FUNCTION**:
Responsible for performing routine sample preparation and metallurgical lab-testing of cast steel samples in support of the Melting operations. Reporting under the general direction of the Manager, Quality Assurance and Environmental Health and Safety.

**DUTIES**:

- Practice safe working techniques and adhere to environmental, health and safety (EHS) policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Perform on a daily basis assisting in a variety of quality control tasks to evaluate the chemical composition of steel castings.
- Sample preparation including the use of a variety of abrasive saws, pedestal grinder, and surface grinders.
- Maintain lot traceability for each processing lot of material.
- Evaluate chemical analysis results for compliance to specification and communicate them to the corresponding melt station.
- Accurately compile data into simple data summaries and reports as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.

**Education, Experience & Qualifications**
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering Technologist from an accredited college or university.
- Training certificates in Health and Safety or related courses considered an asset.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of Metallurgical Laboratory experience evaluating various metals and/or weld samples or chemical processing experience
