Position Overview:

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a skilled and strategic professional to join our Plant Design Civil team as a Senior Technical Engineer/Officer. This role is based in Pickering, Ontario, and offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within our organization.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee systems with a focus on chemistry control.
  • Conduct technical assessments and develop proposals for various major projects within an OPG Nuclear facility. Ensure that all instructions and procedures are current, prepare comprehensive reports, and evaluate submissions from external entities.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineering and technical experts to support the functionality of mechanical and electrical systems from a civil engineering standpoint.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of projects, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Facilitate the clarification of specification requirements and coordinate necessary adjustments or technical work across several major project areas.
  • Maintain and update operational and departmental procedures as required.
  • Provide expert technical evaluations and solutions, addressing challenges and coordinating technical efforts in support of facility commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Must hold a valid engineering license in the province of Ontario.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural design.
  • Experience in a Nuclear Engineering environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience leading meetings and delivering presentations.
  • Willingness to engage with vendors and external partners.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering results effectively.
  • Strong understanding of governance and procedures, with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with OPG's Engineering Change Control (ECC) Process is advantageous.
  • Proficient in structural design and analysis software, preferably STAADPRO, and experienced with Steel, Aluminum, and Concrete structures.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications is preferred.
  • Ability to design and inspect Aluminum Scaffold in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Ontario regulations 851 and 213 is beneficial.
